Procedure on Baby Dedication

Thank you for expressing interest in dedicating your child to God at Potter's House Church Wandsworth. As a Bible-believing church, we hold the dedication of children in high regard, and we are delighted to walk you through this spiritual journey.

Biblical Foundation

The foundation of our practice is deeply anchored in the Scriptures. Just as Hannah dedicated her son, Samuel, to the Lord at a young age (1 Samuel 1:28), we see the powerful influence Samuel exerted in his generation. Moreover, the Gospel recounts how Jesus warmly received and blessed the children, saying, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them" (Matthew 19:14), which underscores the value God places on the young. Psalm 127:4 tells us, "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth," emphasizing the importance of instilling a strong spiritual foundation in them.

Understanding Baby Dedication

It's essential to distinguish between baby dedication and christening. At Potter's House Church Wandsworth, we do not practice christening or infant baptism as these are not explicitly prescribed in the Scriptures. Baptism is an act of obedience after one's profession of faith. Since infants have not yet reached the age of understanding and belief, we dedicate them instead.

What Does Baby Dedication Mean?

Dedicating your child is an act of coming into alignment with our church's commitment, believing in the godly upbringing of the child. This commitment signifies your priority to 'seek first the kingdom of God' (Matthew 6:33) and echoes your declaration of faith. It is a testament to your dedication to nurturing your child in the ways of the Lord, aided by the church, the Holy Spirit, and God Himself.

Your Commitment

It's imperative to recognize that baby dedication is not a mere ceremony but a lifelong dedication. It beckons you as a parent to deeply root yourself in the teachings of the Bible and embody those standards, passing them onto your child. A harmonious relationship with God and a genuine commitment to the tenets of faith are paramount.

Our Role as a Church

The Potter's House Church Wandsworth pledges to stand by you, supporting, praying, and guiding you in this spiritual endeavour. We believe in fostering a community that nurtures and raises children in the light and love of God.

If you are ready to take this blessed step, we urge you to approach this decision with thoughtful prayer and reflection. Ensure that your commitment is not merely ceremonial but arises from a deep desire to grow spiritually and provide a godly foundation for your child.
