Be One, Make One Pt 4

Making Disciples: On Mission, Leading by Example, Helping Others Grow

INTRODUCTION

In this session, we will explore three key marks of a disciple:

1. Being on Mission with Jesus – Actively spreading the Gospel and sharing the message of salvation.

2. Leading by Example – Living out the Gospel through our actions, love, and integrity.

3. Helping Others Grow in Christ – Equipping others to mature in their faith and disciple others.

Through group discussion and personal reflection, we’ll uncover how these discipleship aspects can be lived out practically and biblically in our daily lives.

PART 1: A DISCIPLE IS ON MISSION WITH JESUS (EVANGELISM AND OUTREACH)

Overview:

Jesus has called His followers to be on mission with Him—to share the Gospel and make disciples. This mission is not optional; it’s central to our identity as disciples. Through both our words and actions, we point others to the hope found in Christ.

Key Scriptures:

Matthew 28:19“Go and make disciples of all nations…”

Mark 16:15“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Romans 10:14“How can they believe… unless someone tells them?”

What Is the Text Saying?

Matthew 28:19 – Jesus commands every disciple to go and make more disciples.

Mark 16:15 – The Gospel is for everyone, everywhere.

Romans 10:14 – People need to hear the message in order to respond in faith.

Discussion Questions:

• What does it mean to live “on mission” with Jesus?

• Where do you find it most challenging to share the Gospel?

• How can your everyday life reflect the light of Christ to others?

PART 2: A DISCIPLE LEADS BY EXAMPLE (LIVING OUT THE GOSPEL)

Overview:

Our witness is more than words—it’s how we live. Discipleship involves modeling a life of faith, integrity, and love. People watch our example more than they hear our message. Jesus said others would know we are His by our love.

Key Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 11:1“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

1 Timothy 3:2“The overseer must be above reproach… self-controlled, respectable…”

John 13:34-35“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

What Is the Text Saying?

1 Corinthians 11:1 – Disciples are called to lead by Christlike example.

1 Timothy 3:2 – A disciple’s life should reflect spiritual maturity and character.

John 13:34-35 – Love is the defining trait of a true disciple.

Discussion Questions:

• How does your lifestyle influence others’ view of Christ?

• What’s most difficult about living “above reproach”?

• How can you show Christlike love in practical ways this week?

PART 3: A DISCIPLE HELPS OTHERS GROW TO MATURITY IN CHRIST (MULTIPLICATION AND DISCIPLESHIP)

Overview:

A key part of being a disciple is making more disciples. This means helping others grow, walking with them in their faith, and teaching them to follow Jesus. When we disciple others, we strengthen the whole church and fulfill Jesus’ mission.

Key Scriptures:

Matthew 28:20“Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

2 Timothy 2:2“Entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

Ephesians 4:11-13“To equip his people… until we all reach unity… and become mature…”

What Is the Text Saying?

Matthew 28:20 – Discipleship includes teaching others to follow Jesus fully.

2 Timothy 2:2 – Disciples are called to pass on their faith and invest in others.

Ephesians 4:11-13 – The goal is maturity and unity in the church.

Discussion Questions:

• Why is helping others grow a key part of being a disciple?

• Where do you feel unsure or unqualified to disciple others?

• What are some simple ways to invest in someone’s spiritual growth?

CLOSING DISCUSSION

• Which of these three—being on mission, leading by example, or helping others grow—challenged or inspired you the most?

• What steps do you need to take to grow in that area?

• How do these three traits combine to reflect the life of a true disciple?

CLOSING APPLICATION

This week, take action in each area:

On Mission: Pray for someone in your life who doesn’t know Jesus. Look for a chance to share your testimony or invite them to church.

Leading by Example: Identify one area where your example needs growth (e.g., attitude, honesty, consistency). Ask God to help you grow there.

Helping Others Grow: Reach out to a believer who’s younger in faith—offer encouragement, pray with them, or share what God’s been teaching you.

Come ready to share what God has done in your life through these steps.

NEXT STEPS

As we continue the Be One – Make One journey, we’ll go even deeper into what it means to live as a disciple who multiplies—on mission, living with purpose, and raising up others for God’s Kingdom.
