Week 1
"Joy in Suffering"
Bible study outline for Week 1 on "Joy in Suffering":
Opening Prayer: Begin by praying together, asking God to guide your hearts and minds as you study His Word.
Scripture Reading: Read Philippians 1:12-18 together.
Discussion Questions:
According to this passage, why was Paul in prison? How did he respond to his situation? (v. 12-14)
What was the reaction of some of the believers towards Paul's imprisonment? (v. 15-17)
In verse 18, Paul says, "What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice." What does this statement teach us about Paul's perspective on suffering?
In what ways have you and your spouse experienced suffering in your marriage? How have you responded to those situations? Have you found joy in the midst of your trials?
What are some practical ways you can choose joy in difficult times? How can you encourage each other to do so?
Application:
Take a few moments to reflect on the discussion and pray for each other, asking God to help you find joy in the midst of suffering.
Make an action agreement to choose joy in difficult times. This could involve committing to a specific Bible verse, prayer, or affirmation that reminds you of God's presence and love during difficult times.
Closing Prayer: Close in prayer, thanking God for His Word and for the strength He gives us to find joy in all circumstances.
