Lesson 3: Guarding Your Heart – Living in Holiness
Bible Study Class: Pure Happiness
Lesson 3: Guarding Your Heart – Living in Holiness
As Christians, we must actively guard our hearts against sexual sin. Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
The Importance of Guarding Your Heart
Our hearts determine the course of our lives. What we allow into our hearts influences our thoughts, actions, and spiritual well-being. In a world filled with temptation, guarding our hearts is crucial to living in holiness and maintaining a close relationship with God.
How to Protect Yourself from Sexual Sin
Be Mindful of What You Watch and Listen To
Psalm 101:3 – "I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me."
The media we consume influences our thoughts and desires. Be intentional about avoiding entertainment that promotes immorality.
Avoid Compromising Situations
1 Corinthians 15:33 – "Do not be deceived: 'Bad company ruins good morals.'"
Surround yourself with godly influences and avoid environments that tempt you to sin.
Develop Accountability and Prayer Partners
James 5:16 – "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."
Having trusted Christian friends who hold you accountable strengthens your spiritual walk and helps you resist temptation.
Holiness Brings God’s Blessing
God Requires Holiness
1 Peter 1:15-16 – "But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'"
Holiness is not optional; it is a command from God for all believers.
Holiness Leads to Peace, Favor, and Anointing
Living in holiness brings peace with God and others. It positions us to receive His favor and enables us to walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Those Who Pursue Holiness Are Entrusted with Ministry
2 Timothy 2:21 – "Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work."
God entrusts ministry to those who are committed to purity and righteousness.
Unrepentant Sin Disqualifies Us from Ministry Until Restoration Occurs
When believers fall into sin, repentance and restoration are necessary before continuing in ministry. God forgives, but He also requires true repentance and transformation.
Final Encouragement
This world presents many challenges, but God calls us to a higher standard. Through Christ, we can live in purity and experience true joy and pure happiness. Let us fight for holiness, knowing that victory and blessing come from God.
