Be One, Make One – Part 12 A Disciple Helps Others Grow to Maturity in Christ (Multiplication and Discipleship)

INTRODUCTION

You’ve come this far—not just to grow, but to go. Discipleship doesn’t stop with personal transformation. It multiplies. Jesus saved you, shaped you, and now He sends you. Just like someone walked with you through this journey, you are now called and equipped to do the same for someone else.

This final study will help you understand what it means to intentionally invest in others through mentoring, spiritual multiplication, and building a legacy of faith. You won’t do this alone—the Holy Spirit is with you, and the Body of Christ is around you.

PART 1: DISCIPLES ARE CALLED TO MULTIPLY

Overview:

From the beginning, Jesus’ plan has been reproduction through relationship. He spent three years pouring into a few, who then turned the world upside down. You don’t need to be a Bible scholar—you just need to be available, intentional, and led by the Spirit. Multiplication starts with walking alongside someone else.

Key Scriptures:

Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go and make disciples… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Genesis 1:28 (Spiritual Parallel) – “Be fruitful and multiply…”

John 15:8 – “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

What Is the Text Saying?

Matthew 28:19-20 – Jesus commissions all disciples to pass on everything they’ve learned.

Genesis 1:28 – Just as physical multiplication was God’s plan, spiritual reproduction is too.

John 15:8 – Fruitfulness is evidence of true discipleship—and it glorifies God.

Discussion Questions:

• What’s one thing you’ve learned that you could teach or model to someone else?

• Why do you think multiplication was Jesus’ strategy for building His Church?

• Who has God placed around you that you could begin to disciple?

PART 2: DISCIPLESHIP IS MENTORSHIP, NOT PERFECTION

Overview:

You don’t need to have all the answers to disciple someone—you just need to walk with them. Discipleship is about sharing what God has done in you and helping someone else grow in the same way. It’s more mentorship than mastery.

Key Scriptures:

2 Timothy 2:2 – “Entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

1 Thessalonians 2:8 – “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share… our lives as well.”

Proverbs 27:17 – “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

What Is the Text Saying?

2 Timothy 2:2 – Discipleship is generational—what you’ve received, you pass on.

1 Thessalonians 2:8 – Discipling others is about relationship, not just teaching.

Proverbs 27:17 – Growth happens through relational sharpening and accountability.

Practical Tips:

Start simple – Invite one or two people to meet regularly (weekly or bi-weekly).

Use the studies – Go back through “Be One, Make One” together and discuss.

Be honest – Share your own struggles and victories to encourage real growth.

Pray regularly – Prayer is the foundation of every discipling relationship.

Discussion Questions:

• Where do you feel qualified to disciple someone else?

• Where do you still feel unsure or unprepared?

• How can you take a next step in mentoring someone—even informally?

PART 3: BUILDING A LEGACY OF FAITH (DEEPER REFLECTION)

Overview:

You are not just called to make converts. You are called to make disciples who make disciples. This means living a life that others can imitate—a life marked by love, truth, consistency, and spiritual depth. If we are to multiply, we must model Christ.

This is where everything you’ve learned—loving God, loving people, obedience, humility, mission, truth, grace, and compassion—is put into action. We can no longer be hearers only. It’s time to apply and multiply.

Key Scriptures:

Ephesians 4:11-13 – “To equip his people… until we all reach unity… and become mature.”

Hebrews 5:12 – “By this time you ought to be teachers…”

Philippians 3:17 – “Join in following my example… and observe those who live according to the pattern…”

Titus 2:3-5 – “Teach the younger… encourage them… set an example…”

Matthew 9:37-38 – “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few…”

What Is the Text Saying?

Ephesians 4 – Maturity is the goal—and every disciple is part of the process.

Hebrews 5 – Growth leads to responsibility—we should now be helping others grow.

Philippians 3 & Titus 2 – We must live lives worth imitating.

Matthew 9 – There is a great need—and you are an answer to someone’s prayer.

Heart-Check Questions:

• Am I applying what I’ve learned—or just collecting information?

• Does my life reflect the kind of disciple I want to reproduce?

• Am I willing to invest in someone, even if it’s slow, messy, and costly?

• What legacy am I building with my life and my time?

CLOSING DISCUSSION:

• What part of disciple-making excites you most? What part scares you most?

• Who is one person you can intentionally invest in over the next 6 months?

• What do you need from God and others to step into this new season of leadership?

PRAYER POINTS:

Pray through these with your group or in your personal time this week:

Boldness – That you would not hold back but step forward in obedience.

Clarity – That God would show you who to invest in and how to begin.

Compassion – That you would love deeply and lead gently.

Wisdom – That you would be Spirit-led in how you disciple others.

Endurance – That you wouldn’t give up when it’s hard or slow.

Fruitfulness – That your life would bear lasting fruit for God’s Kingdom.

CLOSING APPLICATION:

This is your next step—multiply what God has done in you:

Identify one person to disciple. Pray for them daily.

Initiate a meeting—coffee, a walk, or a sit-down conversation.

Invite them into spiritual growth. Go through this study again together.

Invest in their life—not as a project, but as a relationship.

Let this be the beginning of a multiplying movement. What started in you is meant to go through you—until Jesus is known, followed, and glorified in many lives.

WHAT’S NEXT:

There’s no “graduation” in discipleship—only deeper growth and greater impact. You’re now a disciple who makes disciples. Continue in community, stay rooted in Scripture, walk in step with the Spirit, and keep loving God and people with all your heart.

You were made for this. Now, go and make disciples.
