Gospel Study – Week 1: What Is the Gospel?

Welcome!

If you’re reading this, it means you’re either curious about Jesus or you’ve recently made a decision to follow Him — and that’s an amazing step. Whether you’re still figuring things out or you’ve just started your walk with God, this 4-week Gospel Study is designed for you.

You won’t go through this alone. You’ll be joined by someone who has walked this journey a little longer — someone who cares, listens, and will walk with you as you explore what the Bible says.

Why This Study Matters

We believe that the love of God is the most powerful and life-changing truth you’ll ever know. But to really understand how much God loves you and what His plan is for your life, you have to start at the foundation — the Gospel.

The Gospel is more than a message — it’s the doorway into a relationship with God, a new identity, and a new way to live.

Through this study, you’ll begin to see:

• Who Jesus really is.

• What He did for you.

• Why it changes everything.

• And how much God truly loves you.

Let’s start this journey together.

Week 1: What Is the Gospel?

Main Focus: Understanding the true meaning of the Gospel — the good news about Jesus Christ.

START HERE: Let’s Talk

What do you think the Gospel is?

(Take time to share your thoughts. Don’t worry about getting it “right.” Just be honest.)

Where do you think that idea came from?

(TV? Church? Culture? A friend?)

Let’s Go to the Bible

Romans 1:16

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”

• What does this verse say the gospel is?

• What kind of power does it talk about?

1 Corinthians 15:1–4

“…the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,

and by which you are being saved…

…Christ died for our sins… was buried… was raised on the third day…”

• What does this passage tell us about what the gospel includes?

• According to this, what must someone do with the gospel?

John 3:16–18

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,

that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life…”

• Why did God send Jesus, according to this passage?

• What happens to someone who believes? What about someone who doesn’t?

• What do these verses show about God’s heart toward you?

Let’s Understand It

The word “Gospel” comes from the Greek word euangelion — it means “good news.”

In ancient times, it was used to announce something big, like the birth of a king or a great victory in battle.

So what’s the good news in the Bible?

Jesus died for our sins

He was buried — proving He truly died

He rose again — defeating sin and death

This is a free gift to those who believe — not something we earn

The gospel isn’t about trying harder — it’s about receiving what Jesus has already done.

Let’s Talk Deeply

• What part of the gospel is new or surprising to you?

• Has this changed the way you think about God?

• What does this say about how much God loves you?

• What might change in your life now that you understand this better?

Wrap-Up Challenge

Before next time:

Read John 3 again on your own — especially verses 16–18

Pray a simple prayer, thanking Jesus for what He has done

Think of someone you could share this good news with

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever wondered how God feels about you, the answer is found in the gospel:

He loves you — so much that He gave His Son for you.

He wants to rescue you — not condemn you.

He offers you a new start, not based on what you do, but based on what Jesus has done.

This is how deeply God loves you.

And this love can transform how you see yourself, your purpose, and your future.

This is just the beginning — let’s keep going.
