Gospel Study – Week 3: What Did Jesus Do for Us?

Welcome Back!

By now, you’ve explored what the gospel is and why we all need to be saved. We’ve seen that sin separates us from God — and we can’t fix it ourselves.

But here’s the good news: God didn’t leave us stuck. He came to rescue us.

The heart of the gospel is a Person — Jesus — and what He did through the cross and resurrection.

This week, we’re looking closely at the greatest act of love in history — when Jesus took our place, carried our sin, and opened the way back to God. This isn’t just history; it’s deeply personal. It was for you.

Purpose

To understand what Jesus accomplished through the cross and resurrection — and how it shows God’s love and grace toward us.

START HERE: Let’s Talk

• Have you ever heard the phrase, “Jesus died for you”? What do you think that means?

• Why do you think Jesus had to die?

• What’s the difference between knowing about Jesus and personally receiving what He’s done?

Let’s Go to the Bible

Romans 5:6–11

“While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly…

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us…”

• When did Jesus die for us?

• What does this say about God’s love?

2 Corinthians 5:21

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin,

so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

• What do you think it means that Jesus became sin for us?

• What does God give us in return?

Isaiah 53:4–6

“He was pierced for our transgressions…

upon him was the punishment that brought us peace…”

• How does this Old Testament prophecy describe Jesus’ suffering?

• What does this tell you about God’s plan and love?

Reading Assignment (Optional): John 19–20

These chapters tell the full story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Take time to read them slowly this week — and picture what Jesus went through for you.

Let’s Understand It

Key Truths from Scripture:

Jesus took our place on the cross — He was punished for our sins.

He paid the price we could never pay.

He rose from the dead — proving victory over sin, death, and the devil.

His resurrection means we can have new life and a restored relationship with God.

This is grace — a free gift we could never earn.

Let’s Talk Deeply

• How do you feel knowing Jesus took your place?

• Why do you think the resurrection is so important — not just the cross?

• What does the word grace mean to you? Have you received it personally?

Wrap-Up Challenge

Before next time:

Write a short thank-you prayer to Jesus. Tell Him in your own words what His sacrifice means to you.

Reflect: Is there anything keeping you from fully receiving what Jesus has done?

Optional Reading: John 19–20

Final Thoughts

If Week 2 showed us the depth of our need, this week shows us the depth of God’s love.

Jesus didn’t wait for us to clean ourselves up. He stepped in while we were still sinners — and laid down His life out of pure love.

He didn’t just die — He rose again, proving that sin and death no longer have the final word.

This is grace: undeserved, unstoppable, transforming love. When you truly receive what Jesus did for you, it will change how you live, how you see yourself, and how you see others. His love is the kind that meets you where you are — and carries you into a brand new life.
