Class Five: Faithfulness and Gentleness
Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Faithfulness and Gentleness in Dating
Faithfulness and gentleness are two vital fruits of the Spirit that help shape and sustain healthy relationships. Faithfulness is loyalty, trustworthiness, and reliability, while gentleness involves humility, kindness, and a considerate spirit towards others.
1. Faithfulness: A Foundation of Trust
The Greek word for faithfulness in Galatians 5:22 is "pistis," which means loyalty, trustworthiness, and reliability. A faithful person honors commitments, keeps their word, and demonstrates consistency in their relationships.
"Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful." (1 Corinthians 4:2)
To cultivate faithfulness:
Keep your promises and commitments.
Be reliable in relationships and friendships.
Trust in God’s plan and remain steadfast in your faith.
2. Gentleness: Humility and Kindness in Action
The Greek word for gentleness in Galatians 5:23 is "praotes," which refers to meekness, humility, and a gentle spirit. It involves being considerate of others, treating them with kindness, and putting their needs before our own.
"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:29)
To cultivate gentleness:
Be patient and understanding with others.
Speak and act with kindness and humility.
Respond to conflicts with grace and a calm spirit.
Signs Someone Lacks Faithfulness and Gentleness
Here are three key indicators that someone has not yet developed Spirit-led faithfulness and gentleness:
Lack of Commitment – Frequently breaking promises or failing to follow through on responsibilities.
Harshness – Being abrasive or judgmental instead of kind and understanding.
Impatience – Easily frustrated, quick to anger, and unwilling to wait on God’s timing.
Self-Examination: Do You Walk in Faithfulness and Gentleness?
A deep soul-searching question to ask yourself:
Do I consistently show steadfast loyalty and commitment to God and others, even in difficult or challenging situations?
Consider:
Do I honor my commitments and remain faithful in relationships?
Am I patient, gentle, and considerate in how I treat others?
Do I seek to build trust and foster healthy, God-honoring connections?
